The Hague Academy for Local Governance ranks second on the list of most innovative organisations in the South Holland region. This has been announced today by the Minister of Economic Affairs, Mrs. Maria van der Hoeven, during a special event in Amersfoort. Because of the high ranking, The Academy will receive a grant from the 'Pieken in de Delta'-programme to further develop the organisation in the coming three years.
By the judgement of the Ministry, The Hague Academy for Local Governance has an innovative approach which differs from most other educational institutes in the field of public administration.
Participants visit neighbourhoods and projects in The Netherlands and neighbouring countries, talk to mayors, municipal staff ánd citizens experts, exchange experiences with colleagues, and take part in governance games, ‘living room sessions’, simulations and interactive theatre programmes. This approach of ‘experiencing’ local governance, has proved to be very effective in inspiring and motivating people for the development process in their home country.
With its activities, the Academy responds to the fast growing need in Eastern Europe and other upcoming democracies for training about the practical aspects of working for and with local government. It brings people from all over the world together in The Hague and thus strengthens the Cities' profile as Centre of Peace and Justice.
